This has led to denials of claims – impacting mental health coverage, cancer treatment, hospital stays, and more.\n\nIn response, Representatives Landsman, Carter, Schrier, and Barrett introduced the bipartisan Doctors Not AI Act – legislation to ensure medical decisions are made by a health professional, not AI.\n\nThe Doctor’s Not AI Act would:\n\n1. Ensure AI is only used in a Supporting Role\n\nPrevents AI from making or issuing harmful determinations involving medical judgment.\n\nAllows insurers to use AI technology to assist with processing claims.\n\nRequires that denials based on medical necessity be made by a licensed health care professional with appropriate expertise.\n\n2. Protect Independent Clinical Judgment\n\nRequires health professionals to independently review each patient’s individual medical circumstances.\n\n3.
